I videotaped as much of the day's events as I could. I heard birds before sunrise, but never did make a visual. They (3) stopped gobbling all together by 7:00 AM. I stayed put till 8:30 AM to no avail. The morning was an unexpected disappointment do to uncooperative obstinate birds. Mid-morning however, proved to be much more rewarding. At 9:00 AM I made the decision to set up amongst some hay bales overlooking a field where I typically observe birds passing through. In an hour's time after frequent yelps and clucks on my friction call, I had a sole long beard sneak in without warning. Admittedly I wasn't totally on task. I was day dreaming and thinking about tomorrow's plans when I caught a glimpse of him. The hay bales did not exactly give me an optimal view, but did offer a field-of-view of approximately 20 feet wide if an opportunity presented itself. I placed the decoy some 20 yards out. The long beard closed the gap on my decoy quickly. Without hesitation, I found the 20 yard crosshair and dropped the hammer on him! I used Pro Elite Tenpoint Bolts with 100 grain Spit Fire mechanical broad heads. I also used an Easton Tracer nock, but is difficult to see in the video.
